It’s a good time to be looking for a new job in Canada. The economy added over 300,000 new positions in 2019, and the unemployment rate continues to be near record low levels. And if you don’t have a university degree, that shouldn’t hold you back right now.
A new report lists the most in-demand jobs in Canada for 2020, and many of them are in the skilled trades and blue-collar fields. Nearly half, four of the top ten are blue-collar: truck drivers, welders, general labourers and heavy-duty mechanics.
The report also points out that despite recent challenges in the retail sector from automation and online shopping, the demand for workers and sales associates in retail remains high. [See retail jobs on CareerBeacon.]

The variety of sectors and skill levels on this year’s top ten list reflects Canada’s relatively strong economy. Many of the in-demand jobs require relatively little formal training while providing good compensation ranges.
About the salary range data
For the engineering, IT and sales and marketing roles, salary ranges represent entry (1–3 years of experience) to senior levels (8–12 years). For the skilled trades and industrial management and industrial and administrative support roles, salary ranges correspond to workers’ first and fifth years of experience on the job.
